White-breasted Nuthatch
Species Details
This low-key resident, once known as the “devil-down bird”, can be seen working its way down tree trunks head-first, prying it’s thin, sharp bill into bark crevices searching for small insects. Its song is a distinct nasal “yank-yank”. It is a common feeder visitor and nests in natural cavities, including occasionally bluebird boxes.
