Species Details

This medium-sized diver is identified by a rounded red head, grey back and black chest, and blue bill with a black tip. The Female is brownish with a lighter color at the base of the bill. It prefers deep water, but will also dabble in shallows for submerged grasses. Breeds in central and western US and Canada.
