Eastern Towhee

Species Details

Formerly known as the Rufous-sided Towhee, males have reddish-brown sides and a long, flashing white-edged tail, while females are a dull brown and white. Look for it under shrubs and thickets, furiously scratching the ground for seeds and insects. Calls include a harsh “zwee”, or the easily heard “drink-your tea” song, the last note rising in pitch.
