Barn Swallow
Species Details
A gifted aerialist with long, pointed wings and a deeply forked tail. Blue-black above and cinnamon-buff below, it feeds on insects captured in flight with its wide, gaping mouth, often low over water or fields. The nest is a cup of mud pellets lined with feathers hidden under eaves of buildings or beneath bridges. The song consists of squeaks, rattles, and musical twittering. Winters from Central to South America.
