American Robin

Species Details

The robin, a consumer of worms in suburban lawns, is usually seen here in large flocks among the treetops, feasting on abundant hackberry fruits when they ripen. In winter, local residents are joined by others winter from northern states. Calls consist of “chup-chup, cheerily”, and males carol melodiously from treetops in spring and summer. The nest is built of mud and grasses on a low tree branch. Photo by Blake Sperow
