Radnor Lake State Park awarded 2014 Excellence in Resource Management from TN Parks
By demonstrating excellence in effective and abundant resource management activities within the park, Radnor Lake State Park has received the 2014 West Tennessee Excellence in Resource Management award for the second year in a row. Resource management activities can be both natural and cultural and includes, but is not limited to, invasive species management, historic preservation, rare species inventory, habitat enhancement or protection, pest management and oral history collection.
In 2014, Radnor Lake State Park has
- – Removed over 25 acres of invasive plants from Otter Creek Road and the southern boundary natural areas.
- – Partnered with Penn State University on discovering and researching two endangered plant species resulting in renewal of plant populations.
- – Worked with MTSU’s Global Studies & Cultural Geography program to identify historical sites and potential properties for future land acquisition and expansion.
- – Built a new kiosk and exhibit information for park visitors.
Through Friends of Radnor Lake, Radnor Lake State Park has also
- – Lead over 30 land acquisition hikes to educate park visitors and increase support.
- – Partnered with the Frist Foundation and AWC Foundation to secure an additional 38.5 acres of land to be protected forever as a state natural area.
- – Maintained trails and removed exotic plants thanks to over 3,500 volunteers, funds raised, and volunteer support grants from our partners REI and the Tennessee Division of Forestry.
