Rachel Carson Day at the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center (May 27th, 2020)

Today, 5 park visitors came to the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center as we celebrated Rachel Carson Day. In 1962, Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring was released and helped shaped the mindset of our current day environmental professionals across the world. To commemorate this special day, we officially reopened today for the first time since March 2020 by offering/conducting this hour long program for our park visitors. Aviary assistant Mackenzie Maness and park manager Steve Ward conducted this hour long program/tour for our park visitors as we highlighted our captive birds of prey along the 550′ boardwalk including a glove program with our resident Great Horned Owl and our resident Golden Eagle.
This event was limited to 8 park visitors who pre-registered for this event, with social distancing of 6′ to ensure we are within COVID-19 safety guidelines for group activities.
Special thanks to our 5 park visitors who braved the rainy afternoon at the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center for this special day at Radnor Lake!
