New Year's Day Sunrise Hike to Harris Ridge

Join Park Manager Steve Ward for a strenuous interpretive sunrise hike from the Walter Criley Visitor Center to Harris Ridge as we kick off 2020 with our focus on the Harris Ridge Trail Project. This 4 1/2 mile strenuous hike will start at 6am sharp as this hike will lead visitors down Otter Creek Road, then highlight future trail construction corridors thru these back areas of the natural area. Participants of this hike should plan on periodic stops to highlight features of our protected natural area, will get an insight into where we plan on building the Harris Ridge Trail from Franklin Road to Otter Creek Road. We will also discuss the trail planning process details of this project, enjoy the scenic views and learn about upcoming trail construction volunteer opportunities for 2020.
Participants should plan on enjoying sunrise at the base of Harris Ridge Tract #1 which was a critical 37 acre tract acquired in 2011 thanks to the partnership between the State of Tennessee, the Harris Family and Friends of Radnor Lake. This 3.5 hour (6am-9:30am) strenuous hike for ages 12 and up. Participants are encouraged to wear good hiking shoes, bring bottled water and use walking sticks due to the steep incline/decline from the top of Harris Ridge.
