New Years Day Sunrise Hike to Harris Ridge

Come burn off that New Years Eve Celebration by joining Park Manager Steve Ward for a strenuous interpretive sunrise hike from the Walter Criley Visitor Center to Harris Ridge as we kick off 2025 with our focus on the Harris Ridge Trail Project.

This 4 & 1/2-mile strenuous hike will start at 6am sharp as this hike will lead visitors down Otter Creek Road, then highlight future trail construction corridors thru these back areas of the natural area. Participants of this hike should plan on periodic stops to highlight features of our protected natural area and an overview of the Harris Ridge Trail from Franklin Road to Otter Creek Road.

This hike also will provide an opportunity to give back as it will also include a 30–45-minute stop/volunteer segment midway thru the hike as registered participants work together to clear/improve/enhance interior sections of the Harris Ridge Trail removing invasive-exotic plants along the future trail connecting Franklin Road to Otter Creek Road.

This 3.5-hour strenuous hike will be limited to 30 park visitors (ages 15 and up). Participants are encouraged to wear good hiking shoes, bring water, work gloves, and use walking sticks due to the steep incline/decline from the top of Harris Ridge. Registration is free, required and for ages 15 and up. No pets allowed on this hike. Registration available at the link below:
