National Public Lands Day – Volunteer Trail Day at Radnor Lake State Natural Area

 

Saturday, September 26th at 8am until noon. Join the Radnor Lake Staff, Hands on Nashville and Friends of Radnor Lake for our monthly volunteer day. We will be working on a variety of projects ranging from mulching the Lake Trail and trail projects on the South Lake/South Cove Trails.   Lunch from Granny White Market, gloves and bottled water provided by Friends of Radnor Lake. No reservations necessary.

 

National Public Lands Day – Radnor Lake Environmental Research Management Hike

 

Saturday, September 26th, 2015 (1pm-3pm). Come out to hike the trails of Radnor Lake State Natural Area led by Dr. Robert Loeb of the Pennsylvania State University and Ranger Will Peters to learn about the scientific research being performed at Radnor Lake to inform the management of the Natural Area. The group will be making stops along the trails to observe the research projects concerning long-term forest changes related to invasive plant species, white-tailed deer, beaver, landslides, ridges, endangered plant species and landscape history. The environmental management presentation will focus on the interplay of ecological factors in regard to the restoration of endangered plants and forest health.  Reservations are required and start on Sunday, September 20th at 9:30am through September 25th at 5:30pm.

This hike will be divided into two parts: the first part is rated as moderate; and the second part is rated as difficult. The entire hike will take two hours. Participants in only the first part of the hike will be guided back to the starting point by Park Manager Steve Ward. It is recommend that participants wear sturdy shoes and bring something to drink. Ages 12 and up.
This hike will start at the Visitor Center off of Granny White Pike promptly at 2pm on September 26th. Anyone wanting to make reservations may do so at the Visitor Center in person or by calling the park office at 615-377-1281 or 615-373-3467. Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center Tours

 

 Saturday, September 26th at 1pm-7pm. Join the ranger staff at the new aviary center at Radnor Lake for a tour, a bird of prey program at 2pm and 4pm to view our four birds of prey. Reservations are not required.
