Junior Ranger – Session 2

Session #2 of our Jr. Ranger Intern Program was on Monday, July 9th thru Saturday, July 14th with 14 interns working with the park staff on numerous projects around the natural area. Now in our 16th year of this program, the Jr. Ranger Intern Program creates an opportunity for participants to work with state park rangers on trail projects at Radnor Lake, increase their exposure to environmental education programs and gain an in-depth insight into natural resource protection.
This is a labor intensive collaborative effort between the Friends of Radnor Lake, the Radnor Lake Staff, Tennessee State Parks and the Jr. Ranger Interns. Most days consisted of hiking a minimum of 3 miles, working with the park staff to complete the Historic Valve House Trail Project, environmental education programs by the ranger staff and/or working daily at the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center.
On Tuesday, July 10th the interns and staff traveled to the Piney River in Hickman County to clean up 5.5 miles of this river including recycling materials collected during that river clean up. This included 19 used tires which were hauled back to be recycled with our friends at Bridgestone/Firestone on 8th avenue as part of the Tires4ward Program.
Thank you to Friends of Radnor Lake for funding this program and for all the hard work by our park staff to conduct a safe week with these youth interns!
