Wildfire Training at Radnor Lake State Natural Area

On September 4th, Radnor Lake hosted our annual S-130 and S-190 Wildfire Training at Radnor Lake with our partners from Tennessee Division of Forestry, Tennessee State Parks and Tennessee Division of Natural Areas. This training was offered to Division of Natural Area Staff, Tennessee State Park Staff and external partners from across the State of Tennessee. This training provided instruction in the primary factors affecting the start and spread of wildfire and how to recognize potentially hazardous situations that could compromise safety on the fire line.
Thanks to our partners at Tennessee Division of Forestry, 17 TDNA and TSP Staff Members were able to participate in a S-130 Firefighter Training and S-190 Wildland Fire Behavior certification. This training is a requirement for anyone working on wildfire response and/or conducting prescribed burns in Tennessee State Parks, Tennessee State Natural Areas and/or Tennessee State Forest managed lands.
On September 5th, Radnor Lake hosted our annual RT-130 Wildfire Training Refresher. Thanks to our partners at Tennessee Division of Forestry, 14 TDNA and TSP Staff Members were able to participate in a RT-130 Firefighter Refresher Training Certification. This training provided instruction in the primary factors affecting the start and spread of wildfire and how to recognize potentially hazardous situations that could compromise safety on the fire line.
During both of these days of trainings at Radnor Lake, 36 State Park, State Natural Area Staff Members and external partners attending this training successfully participated–passed their annual pack test to allow participants to achieve their annual red card certification requirement which is a requirement to work on wildfires and prescribed burns across the State of Tennessee. This not only ensures that these professional standards are updated annually but also ensures our efficient and fast response to any wildfire response needs at our Tennessee State Parks, State Natural Areas and State Forest.
Special thanks to our friend TDF Fire Operations Unit Leader Robin Bible for instructing this class this year and the past 20+ years for our State Park and Natural Area Staff Members across the state and to Friends of Radnor Lake for providing lunch (both days) for this training at Radnor Lake!
