Motlow College Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Club (COR Club) and Environmental Science students celebrated National Public Lands Day on Friday, September 23rd by helping Radnor Lake State Natural Area restore a Piece of History from the early 1900s through the mid-1950s.  This Historic Valve House and Valve are located just downstream of the Radnor Lake Dam. The giant water valve was used to deliver up to a million gallons of water per day to the Radnor Train Yards near I-65, south of Nashville.  The water was used to power steam locomotives.

Pictured left to right: Carl Templeton, Alissa English, Associate Professor Kevin Fitch (COR Club Sponsor), Jamie Nobile, Aliah Gilbert, Luis Marrero, Katie Parnell, Evan Wolkonowski, and Briley Nichols worked to remove a layer of old rust and treat the historic pipe and valve with a preservative.  This activity helps preserve historic features within our parks and natural areas while building team work and life lessons for our next generation.  As well, this activity is acknowledged nationally for Public Lands Day and within the State by supporting the TN-Promise, which requires regular public service to maintain eligibility.   For more information please visit these web sites:
