The Big Payback 2021
This annual day of fundraising, hosted by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, is a community-wide giving day which shines a spotlight on local giving.
Our Big Payback goal is to raise $20,000 to help fund the eagle program at the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center at Radnor Lake for the upcoming year.
The Barbara J. Mapp Foundation has provided ongoing support of this program – from concept through the build, then helping us to sustain, maintain and improve this beautiful complex designed for interpretive programming and visitors with disabilities in mind.
To help us with our fundraising goal, Barbara J. Mapp Foundation has generously pledged a $5,000 match for individual donations made through The Big Payback.
Ongoing costs for this program include the following:
Feeding the birds
- $5 provides one meal for one eagle
- $25 feeds that one eagle for a full week
- $120 covers the cost of meals for a month for one eagle
- $1,500 is the annual budget for food for one eagle
Veterinary cost ranges from $600 to more than $1,200 per visit. Care for each bird is specific to their needs, based on the injuries that caused them to be designated as non-releasable. Our vet, who specializes in raptors, visits the aviary at least four times a year for wellness visits.
Training cost ranges from $450 to $550 per visit. Our specialized trainers teach Radnor staff how to safely handle the birds for uniform high-quality care by the park staff for public viewing, interpretive programs, feeding, and when maintenance of the birds’ habitats are needed based on injury to each of our birds of prey.
Can you help?
Can you help with a one-time or recurring donation to support this ongoing program? No gift is too great or too small.
Thank you very much for your support! We look forward to a great future, continuing the same high-quality care for our captive birds of prey and supporting the natural area’s mission of providing unique wildlife viewing experiences for our park visitors at Radnor Lake.
