First Day of Spring Hikes at Radnor Lake March 21, 2015

At 10am this morning at Radnor Lake, Dr. Doug Heffington (MTSU) and Ranger Sam King co-led a program as part of the statewide spring hike initiative with Tennessee State Parks.  This interpretive hike was focused on the historical significance of the Historic Valve-House, caretaker residence and influence of the L & N Raildroad at Radnor Lake.  23 park visitors attended this powerpoint presentation and hike to the Historic Valve House Trail.

This hike is one of three hikes being offered today at Radnor Lake for our park visitors which began with a sunrise hike to Harris Ridge and concludes this evening with a Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Tour by Ranger Dustin Crowell at 5pm.

We would like to thank the park visitors who attended this hike today and especially thank Dr. Heffington and Ranger Sam King for working together to lead this hike today at Radnor Lake!

Radnor Lake First Hike to the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center

Ranger Dustin Crowell lead the first public hike to the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Center today as part of the Tennessee State Park’s First Hike Series. One of three hikes offered at Radnor Lake today, this hike began at the intersection of the Hall Drive/Otter Creek Road and offered park visitors a preview of the aviary center before opening this coming May 2nd. This hike which had 18 park visitors of all ages included a birds of prey program and tour along the 550′ boardwalk to view 3 of the birds of prey housed at the aviary center.

Our next tour of the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center will be on Friday, March 27th at 5pm with Ranger Jesse Germeraad.
