On July 9th, Radnor Lake Staff and 17 Jr. Ranger Interns traveled to Wayne County to clean up 10-miles of the Buffalo River between Bell Bridge on Hwy 13 and Blue Rock take out in Flatwoods, TN.

This is the 13th year that Jr. Ranger Interns from Radnor Lake have conducted this river clean up, resulting in tons of trash and tires collected from the river with an average of 40 tires collected annually.

Over the past 3 years, tires collected during this river clean up on the Buffalo River have been transported back to Nashville and recycled thru Bridgestone Americas Tires4ward Program.  Yesterday alone, the Jr. Ranger Interns collected 9 used tires from the Buffalo River. This has resulted in 32 tires collected and recycled over 18 miles of river over the past two weeks by our Jr. Ranger Interns.

Thank you Bridgestone for offering this great recycling initiative which results in the tires collected yesterday being recycled instead of going to a landfill!

All other trash collected from this 10-mile stretch yesterday was hauled/disposed of by our partners at Flatwood Canoe Base who also donate t-shirts to the Jr. Ranger Interns annually for participating in this river clean-up initiative….thank you Flatwoods Canoe Base Staff for your annual hospitality and for donating t-shirts to our Jr. Rangers for their clean up efforts!

In addition, we were fortunate enough this year to have help from Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Officers (from Wayne County) Brandon Taylor and Daniel Plunkett who assisted with this river clean-up, scouted our route prior to the clean up on the Buffalo River, etc……….Thank you Brandon and Daniel!

Special thanks as always to Friends of Radnor Lake for funding this annual program and to the Radnor Lake Staff for all of their hard work to make this program possible.

The Jr. Ranger Intern Program at Radnor Lake will have one more river clean-up days this summer as part of the Jr. Ranger Intern Program at Radnor Lake during the month of July.
