National Trails Day 2017
As part of a statewide effort with Tennessee State Parks, Radnor Lake celebrated National Trails Day by hosting several programs and volunteer activities for park visitors, turning National Trails Day into a 3-day event for 2017.
On Friday morning, over 25 volunteers came out to Radnor Lake to work with Ranger Paul Schauer and Ranger Will Peters on trails projects ranging from mulching the Lake Trail via wheelbarrow to installing rip rap rock at the Historic Valve House Trail.
Friday afternoon, 17 volunteers worked with Ranger Will Peters and Ranger Dustin Crowell at the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center installing the final stone work in the flighted eagle aviary and plant 40 native switchgrass plants inside the aviary.
Park visitors Dana and Rick Short donated over 25 cases of bottled water for our volunteer day and Friends of Radnor Lake provided lunch from Papa John’s Pizza which was all much appreciated by the park staff and our volunteers!
On Saturday Morning June 3rd, Ranger Matthew Bowling and Park Manager Steve Ward conducted a sunrise canoe float for park visitors with Ranger Dustin Crowell conducting a hike for park visitors to the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center.
Last, Ranger Will Peters will wrap up our National Trails Day Weekend with a sunset canoe float for 12 park visitors Sunday evening.
