National Trails Day 2014
Radnor Lake State Natural Area and Friends of Radnor Lake have expanded National Trails Day into a 2-day event this year.
On Friday, June 6th there were over 105 volunteers from Deloitte and from Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation who helped out at the natural area by mulching eastern portions of the Lake Trail, removing an observation deck soon to be replaced and working at the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center.
On Saturday, June 7th there were two hikes led at Radnor Lake as part of a statewide Tennessee State Parks hiking program.
- At 7am, Ranger Jesse Germeraad led a hike on the Historic Valve-House Trail.
- At 11:30am, Park Manager Steve Ward and Ranger Jesse Germeraad co-led a tour of the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center and birds of prey program for park visitors.
In addition, there was a special work day for volunteers to come help the ranger staff work on the aviary center 8am-11am.
Friends of Radnor Lake Staff, Board Members, Jr. Advisory Board Members and Volunteers set up tables at both the East and West Parking Areas to celebrate National Trails Day and inform park visitors of our collective efforts to protect Radnor Lake.
Last: At 6pm, there was a ranger-led canoe float at Radnor Lake as Ranger Leslie Anne Rawlings that took park visitors around the lake for an interpretive float to view the natural area and observe wildlife.
