Tennessee Promise Volunteer Day at Radnor Lake State Natural Area (June 24th, 2017)

On Saturday, June 24th over 65 volunteers came to Radnor Lake to work with the park ranger staff as part of our Monthly Volunteer Trail Day at Radnor Lake. These 65+ volunteers worked on mulching the East Lake Trail-North Ganier Ridge portions of the trails via wheelbarrow at Radnor Lake.  This was also part of Tennessee State Parks Statewide effort today to help students achieve their community service hours for TN Promise requirement hours.

Green Heron at Radnor Lake

Picture above by Don Horne Recently, photographers have been spending long hours observing and trying to capture photos of the secretive Green Heron nesting on the Radnor Lake Dam near the west parking lot. The individual was noticed nesting in a Red Maple on May 13th;  the eggs typically take 19-21 days for incubation.  Photographers believe there are four to five eggs in the nest and with it being 21 days since the nest had been spotted the hatchling

National Trails Day 2017

As part of a statewide effort with Tennessee State Parks, Radnor Lake celebrated National Trails Day by hosting several programs and volunteer activities for park visitors, turning National Trails Day into a 3-day event for 2017.   On Friday morning, over 25 volunteers came out to Radnor Lake to work with Ranger Paul Schauer and Ranger Will Peters on trails projects ranging from mulching the Lake Trail via wheelbarrow to installing rip rap rock
