On our final two days of the Jr. Ranger Intern Program at Radnor Lake, the staff at Radnor Lake worked with 200 volunteers installing mulch and gravel on the Lake Trail. We are thankful for all the volunteers who came out to work with the ranger staff to push wheelbarrows of 2" rock and mulch a 1/2 mile down the Lake Trail to improve this trail over the past two days. On July 23rd, Radnor Lake Staff and 12 Jr. Ranger Interns traveled to Wayne County to clean up 4 miles stretch of the Buffalo River in Flatwoods, Tennessee. This was the 3rd clean-up in a series of river clean ups since June on different sections of the Buffalo River. These river clean-up trips have resulted in 22+ miles of river to be cleaned of trash and over 34 tires collected and recycled thru Bridgestone's Tires4ward Program. [caption id="attachment_4535"

On Saturday, July 18th Radnor Lake State Natural Area conducted a special volunteer day for Tennessee Promise Students.  This work day included students from area high schools and regular park volunteers who all worked with the Ranger Staff and SIR Alex Kenney on installing gravel on the Lake Trail at Radnor Lake. Beginning at 8am until 4pm, volunteers worked through the heat of the day hauling wheelbarrows of 2"gravel to sections of the Lake Trail

On July 9th, Radnor Lake Staff and 17 Jr. Ranger Interns traveled to Wayne County to clean up 10-miles of the Buffalo River between Bell Bridge on Hwy 13 and Blue Rock take out in Flatwoods, TN. This is the 13th year that Jr. Ranger Interns from Radnor Lake have conducted this river clean up, resulting in tons of trash and tires collected from the river with an average of 40 tires collected annually. Over the Fourth of July weekend, the International Moose Convention was held in Nashville drawing nearly 7,500 members from across North America to discuss, among other topics, their philanthropic efforts in supporting children, seniors and the communities in which members live. As part of the convention, the Moose organized nearly 600 volunteers to work with eight local charitable and community based efforts in and around Nashville, including Radnor

Jr. Ranger Intern Program at Radnor Lake State Natural Area (Session 2)

Session 2 of our annual Jr. Ranger Intern Program began on Monday, July 6th and runs thru Saturday July 11th.  This is our 13th year to offer this program for local middle school, high school and college students. Seventeen participants in this program started Monday by hiking over 3+ miles of trails with the ranger staff, will clean up 8 miles of the Buffalo River, participate in interpretive programs at the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center

July 4th Interpretive Programs at Radnor Lake

Two interpretive canoe floats were offered this morning at Radnor Lake for the 4th of July.  Ranger Will Peters led a sunrise canoe float for park visitors at 6am.  At 9am, Commissioner Bob Martineau and guests attended a canoe float at Radnor Lake led by Ranger Will Peters and Park Manager Steve Ward. In addition to the two canoe floats this morning, Ranger Sam King, Ranger Dustin Crowell and SIR Alex Kenney are conducting birds of prey programs
